Base Builder partnered with the Service Employees International Union to support fast-food workers in winning sector-wide bargaining rights through landmark reforms. We collected over 13,000 signatures and continue to support organizing efforts in the industry.
Our Approach
- Developed and refined high-volume contact collection strategies targeting fast food workers
- Collected 13,000+ worker signatures in support of the union effort
- Captured detailed contact data, workplace grievances, personal context, and tailored follow-up guidance
- Built a structured system to move workers into dues-paying membership, strikes, and public actions
- Tracked outreach calls, 1:1 conversations, and organizing benchmarks, with performance-based coaching and interventions
- Recruited and trained Organizer Apprentices using Base Builder organizing systems
- Created a reliable pipeline for identifying and vetting future union organizers
- Advanced top-performing Apprentices into Organizer roles based on clear standards of accountability and productivity
Outcomes
- Expanded organizing capacity without requiring the union to build internal recruitment, hiring, or training infrastructure
- Delivered trained, work-ready organizers able to contribute immediately to ongoing campaigns
- Generated a high-value dataset of worker contacts, issues, and engagement history for continued organizing
- Drove successful actions including dues signups, strikes, and media events
